Burlington Library Association

It is never too early to start exposing a child to the joy of books.  BLA Board member Dawn Markelon began this program in December 2000, using materials purchased from the Friends of Libraries USA  along with a packet of early reading materials.  Besides a new hardboard book, the bag includes a bookmark with a list of books babies will enjoy, a magnetic picture frame, and pamphlets with ideas on how to stimulate young children to read.  A wealth of suggestions on how and when to find the time to read to a child is also included.  To date, approximately 50 bags have been distributed.

If you know of a family with a new arrival (up to 12 months old), please call the library at 673-3331 or click to send an email, and they will send the family a letter about this program inviting them to stop by for their gift bag.
