  • Friday, May 18, 7 p.m.  Association Annual Meeting.  Business meeting followed by party to honor Life Members.  Details TBA.

  • Saturday, December 3, 10am - 4pm : "Good-as-New" book sale.  Anne Walluk Community Room.

    Excellent quality children’s and adults' fiction and non-fiction lightly used books for sale.  Most priced from $1 - $6.  Great for gifts!  Gift wrapping available for $1 extra.

    Cat’s Meow of Burlington Public Library (pictured at left) was also on sale.

    Staring Tom Berenger. In 1863, the Northern and Southern forces fight at Gettysburg in the decisive battle of the American Civil War.

    Popcorn will be served. No registration required.

    Part of the Civil War Commemorative Movie Series. Sponsored by the Burlington Library Association and the Burlington Historical Society.

 

  • Thursday, November 17th, 7pm - David Smith -- Outrageous Dan Sickles  

    dan sickleDan Sickles was a dangerous yet talented man with a lively gruesome life story you won't want to miss!  Part of the Civil War Commemorative Series. Sponsored by the Burlington Library Association and the Burlington Historical Society.

  • Saturday, October 22 - Fall Pie Sale, 10am until sold out - The sale brought in $831 from 77 pies and 2 donations! Kudos to our conscientious, hard-working and companionable trio: Pat Small, Elaine Eberhard & Sami Sebastian, and to all "Friends" and library staff whose baking and buying made this such an ENORMOUS success! -- great work by Nancy Winter not only for her baking efforts, but also for organizing the whole event!

  • Thursday, October 20th - Carolyn Ivanoff -- Ghosts of Gettysburg This program was extremely successful. Every inch of the Community Room floor was covered with people and they were sitting in the hall and into the children's area. We estimate around 70.

    Carolyn was very pleased, and very happy to see it was a worthwhile tripfor her. She was also extremely grateful for her gift package that Pat Small made up for her. Thanks so much for the idea and following up, Pat.

  • May 18, 2011 - Annual Meeting: “My 45 Years with NBC Television”

    Tom Monahan, a three-time Emmy winner for Channel 30, spoke about his 45 successful years in television.  Tom’s career began in Connecticut in 1965.   He has witnessed and been the first to cover many major news developments, such as the 1979 collapse of the Civic Center (now known as the XL Center) roof.   After he was promoted to Chief Political Correspondent, he covered many historically important events for Connecticut and beyond.

  • April 28 - 30, 2011 - Spring Book Sale 
     
    The sale raised $1686.  Thanks to all who volunteered to work and those who came to buy books.
  • March 24th, 2011 - Jo Hansling--Tribute to Quilts of the Civil War 
  • February 12th, 2011 - Black Forest Bake Sale. 

    Nancy Winter and her team did it again!  We raised $447 compared with $438 last year.  Says Nancy, "Kudos to the generous, creative bakers who helped make this year's Black Forest Gourmet Bake Sale a huge success! Only 19 of us made this sale even more successful than last year's! Way to go, everyone!  Hope to see all of your wonderful creations next year!"

  • Oct. 23, 2010: Pie sale. $746.
  • Oct 28, 29, 30, 2010: Book sale.  Upstairs book cart: $503, Downstairs: $2027, Sale total: $2530.
  • Sept. 26, 2010: Author Diana Ross McCain (Mysteries and Legends of New England). This program was the second in a series co-sponsored by the BHS and the BLA. The author sold and signed her books at the event, and attendance was excellent.
  • February 13, 2010: BLACK FOREST BAKE SALE.

  • October 18, 2009: 15th ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE plus photos!

MISSION: "The purpose of the Burlington Library Association, Inc. [also known as Friends of the Library] shall be to plan, develop and conduct such programs as will support a free public library and designed to promote the library and premises as a center for civic and cultural activities."  (Read the Bylaws, the Articles of Incorporation and click here to view our IRS tax forms.)  How do we put these formal words into action?  Check us out on this website!  The BLA Board differs from the Town Library Board.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?  A LOT:

  • Friends of Connecticut Libraries select our own Sandy Mazeau for their 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Held the 2009 Annual Meeting in May featuring BLUES 101 with Dan Stevens. 
  • The Spring '09 book sale raised $1,802 + $85 from the Cart, and the Fall sale did $2001 (+ cart $86). 
    Spring '08 was $2735, and Fall '08 raised $1776!
  • Volunteer Recognition: May 13, 2009 & June 13, 2007.  Parties were held to thank our volunteers for their service.
  • The book cart brigade marched in the Bicentennial Parade
  • Contributions for 2008 came to $16640, while 2007 totaled $17740.
  • Added nine generous donors to the Life Membership plaque
  • Sponsored Sonny and Perley's A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald concert and their Romance show 
  • Presented a Celtic program with Tara's Thistle
  • Parker Trust grants funded the Music Corner  and in 2005, a $3000 grant purchased a new network server  
  • Helped fund the Toddler's Busy Bay
  • Each of the 30 members of the Birthday Book Club has chosen & purchased a book for the children's room
  • Founded the Books for Babies program
  • Donated funds for three new computers, plus a new computer table for the Apple PC in the children's room
  • Raised $6455 from the concert, book & bake sales  Click for results & pictures.
  • Donated funds to the children's room to purchase new toddler’s board books 
  • Purchased 26 new LeapPad special electronic "books"
  • Purchased over $4500 of CD audio books & print material
  • Sponsored the third annual Fireside Reading program (view pictures) 
  • Sold nearly $700 of the Images of America Burlington book plus carved walking sticks in 2004
  • Spent over $2100 in 2008 for landscaping and replacing plants
  • Purchased about $600 worth of supplies and books for the local history room
  • Paid $1684 in 2005 for membership to various museums and attractions
