Wednesday Night Knitters Join us for a fun night of knitting, learning, and socializing in a relaxed and informal setting. Each week we’ll discuss a knitting topic for about 15 minutes and then follow with time for knitting your own projects. Feel free to come one night or all seven, but please register in advance for the night or nights you plan on attending. Light refreshments will be served. Introducing the Book-a-Knitter program, for one-on-one help with your knitting 6:00pm – 6:30pm on the Wednesday nights that the knitters meet. | New Mexico: Travels with Bill Conway Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 7:00pm The Burlington Public Library is pleased to host a photographic journey through New Mexico with Bill Conway, to be held in the Anne Walluk Community Room. Bill will present a slideshow of his photos and share stories of his travels to New Mexico, the land of enchantment. A former teacher in the Orange School System, Bill Conway is now retired and living in North Haven. He also taught at the Air Force Dependents School in Hawaii, Japan, and England, as well as taught in Somalia, East Africa, under the International Schools Services. Bill enjoys researching and photographing cemeteries, meeting houses, churches, and greens. Refreshments will be served. |

Tuesday, March 16 @ 11:00 AM Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford In the opening pages of Jamie Ford’s stunning debut novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle’s Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families,left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol. This simple act takes old Henry Lee back to the 1940s, at the height of the war, when young Henry’s world is a jumble of confusion and excitement, and to his father, who is obsessed with the war in China and having Henry grow up American. | Dawn Leger – author of “In Flight” | Thursday, April 15 @ 6:30 PM |
Local author Dawn Leger will talk to us about her new fiction book “In Flight” which takes the reader on a voyage of discovery to Turkey. Ms. Leger takes her knowledge and love of Turkey and blends it into this wonderful story of new found friendships and family secrets. A graduate of Bristol Central High School, Dawn received her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Connecticut. While living in New York City, Dawn worked as a professor, editor, and consultant at New York University. Since returning to Connecticut, she has held leadership roles in many community service organizations. Ms. Leger has lived here in Burlington for the past eleven years. She traveled to Turkey annually with her late husband Nihat Ozkaya where he introduced her to the rich culture, history and people of Turkey. Light Refreshments will be served. |
